True Heroes

Not many have the courage to speak up, defend, and make a difference for the good of their country. Bravery allows a country to stand tall and show other countries that we are not easily defeated. Even if we fail, the fact that we tried is what's important. True heroes are people who make wise decisions to protect and defend their country and its people no matter what happens, and the historical battle of Bataan is an excellent example to show the bravery of Filipinos.

The Day of Valor, also known as Araw ng Kagitingan, is a national observance in the Philippines that commemorates the fall of Bataan to Japanese troops during World War II and is honored every April 9. It is inspiring to see fellow Filipinos fight for their nation, even though victory is not guaranteed. World War II was the largest and deadliest war in history, involving more than 30 countries. The Battle of Bataan ended on April 9, 1942, and the events that followed became known as the Bataan Death March, which is considered one of the worst atrocities in modern history. The surrendered Filipinos and Americans were forced to march 65 miles from Mariveles, at the southern end of the Bataan Peninsula, to San Fernando. The march took around five days to complete, and it is believed that thousands of men perished as a result of the savagery of their captors, who starved and abused the marchers and bayoneted those who were too weak to walk. Survivors were transported by rail from San Fernando to POW camps, where thousands more died due to disease, mistreatment, and starvation. I simply cannot imagine the horrors endured by these brave men. They boldly faced the consequences and fought until the bitter end.

They are indeed deserving of respect, and commemorating Araw ng Kagitingan is one way to express it. Let us view them as an inspiration to protect our land, because only by doing so will we be able to attain the desired development, unity, freedom, and peace. Working together is crucial in order to achieve a goal, and the Battle of Bataan teaches us the importance of helping one another, especially during difficult circumstances.
